Volcane Spins: our full review and a few timing tips

We went into Volcane Spins expecting a throwaway time-killer and came out with a genuine soft spot for it. The core is one action — spin a platform over a volcano so falling shards land where they should — but the way it escalates keeps it fresh far longer than it has any right to.

The first tip we'd give anyone starting out: stop trying to be precise. Volcane Spins rewards rhythm more than accuracy. Once you find the tempo of the falling shards and just tap along with it, your streaks get way longer than when you're staring and second-guessing every piece.

Watch the heat shimmer, too. It's not decoration. When a shard passes through the wavy hot air it drifts slightly, and if you account for that early you'll stop missing the fast diagonal drops. It took us a couple of runs to trust it.

For endless mode, our best scores came from ignoring the score entirely and focusing on survival. The multiplier builds on its own if you stay clean. Chasing points directly made us greedy and sloppy every single time.

Overall it's a lovely little arcade game. Short sessions, quick restarts, no waiting around. If you want something for a bus ride that still asks something of your reflexes, Volcane Spins is an easy pick.
